Book Review: Neither Here Nor There

Neither Here Nor There By Bill Bryson

Bill Bryson's travel books just make you want to travel. In fact they make you really want to travel by yourself. He seems to have such a good time just cruising around sitting in cafes/restaurants and observing the world around him. As I have said in an earlier review, he finds humour in places you wouldn't and has such an interesting outlook on the world. In this book he digs up some random facts about the places he visits. I think travelogues are meant to be a bit cynical and take the piss out of places the author has visited (we naturally do this to things that are different) but Bryson does it without being pretentious or snobby. He even laughs at himself. This was his first travel book and recounts his travels in 1990 with a few flashbacks to the 70's when he was a young man. It has aged well...I would love to read an account from him now to see how much it has changed...fuck it I might just have to write my own travel book...
