Book Review: The Affair

The Affair By Lee Child

Normally I rush to the book store in the first week of a new Jack Reacher book being released. I love them. I eat the words on the page with my eyes like I would eat a bucket of KFC at about 11a.m. on a Sunday morning after half a can too much the night before. BUT this time I waited. You know when you get fish and chips and you rip them open and by the time you get home half the parcel is gone and you're a bit gutted? Isn't it so much more satisfying when you wait and spread the paper out on the table and get the biggest plate you have out of the cupboard and get the sauce out of the fridge and settle down on the couch ready for a food coma? Well it was worth the wait. I also had a book voucher and it was $10 cheaper than when it was first released. Win win.

Once I start one of these books I can't stop...which is what you want a good crime thriller to do to you. I am a book purist but if I had a Kindle then my page turning finger would be very sore right now. I challenge anyone to show me a cooler character then Jack Reacher. One low-light of a few Reacher books lately is that he hasn't been stepping up to the plate with the ladies....does he get some ass in the Affair? You'll have to read and find out. The broad on the cover looks tight though.

The Affair is set back in Reacher's Army days, which is awesome as it is always interesting to know more of his back story. I have also noticed in the last few books Lee Child has been making reference to other Reacher novels linking shit up and possibly setting up some cool story lines in the future. The twists and turns in this book make it one of the better Reacher stories in the last few years.

If you have no idea about who Jack Reacher is then I suggest you get your hands on a copy of 'Killing Floor' By Lee Child - the first Reacher book. Do it. I know people who haven't read a book since they were 12 who picked it up by accident, started and now have nearly read them all.

4.2/5
