Unbeatable Guiness World Record

Ratu Udre Udre

Ratu Udre Udre (apparently pronounced 'unreˈunre' but i can't pronounce that either) was a Fijian chief. He holds the Guinness World Record for “most prolific cannibal” by what I would hope was a country mile. During the 19th century, Udre Udre reportedly ate between 872 and 999 people. Normally I would give high praise to someone who spit-roasted this many people during a lifetime, but I can't seem to get my head around how selfish this chap was. He kept a stone for each body he ate and the stones were placed alongside his tomb in Rakiraki, in northern Viti Levu. I can't even be sure that I will get through as many Cyclones in my life than Ratu did humans, so he must of have had quite a sweet tooth for this diet.

According to Udre Udre’s son, the chiefs of Rakiraki would go to the battle field along with Udre Udre and they would each give him every body part of their victims, especially the head, preserving what he couldn’t eat in one sitting for consumption later. Disgraceful behaviour.
